1.1 Getting Started

This library documents the FreeMD library and utilities.

FIXME preconditions

This manual can be used in several ways. If read from the beginning to the end, it gives a good introduction into the library, how it can be used in an application, and the included utilities. Forward references are included where necessary. Later on, the manual can be used as a reference manual to get just the information needed about any particular interface of the library or tools. Experienced programmers might want to start looking at the examples at the end of the manual, and then only read up those parts of the interface which are unclear.

1.2 Features

FreeMD has a couple of features that make it interesting for you to use.

it's free software
Anybody can use, modify, and redistribute it under the terms of the GNU General Public License (see section B. GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE).

it's flexible
FIXME

it's easy
FreeMD hides the differences between the protocol and device access from the programmer and user behind an easy-to-use interface. This way the programmer can focus on the other parts of the program, and still integrate Net MD support in their application. Once support for FreeMD has been added to a program, it is easy to add support for future Net MD compatible devices and features. The user can just concentrate on getting the most out of their hardware.
